Phil’s influence and skills have taken him around the world.
Over the past 20 years Phil has played lots of records to lots of people in lots of clubs, bars, warehouses, fields, basements, carparks and bunkers for the last twenty years. He’s renowned for playing the newest sounds and forward thinking electronic music.
Phil was synonymous with some of the greatest parties and clubbing institutions around the country; the Love parties, Sabotage, Tweekin, Mad Racket, Chinese Laundry, Home, Honkytonks, Revolver, 161, Empire, Ambar, Halo, Garage, and national festivals such as Vibes On A Summers Day, Field Day, Big Day Out, Falls Festival, Global Carnival and Splendour In The Grass.
Musically versatile, Phil has played alongside Michael Mayer, M.A.N.D.Y., Adam Freeland, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter, Sasha, John Digweed and Jose Padilla.
Internationally he’s played Burning Man, Spundaes, PS1, Funky Teknotribe and more, from Mexico City to New York to Denver, from Phoenix to Portland up to Toronto and Vancouver, all across Europe from Prague to London and Berlin, to Phnom Penh, Bangkok and NZ.
Voted Australian DJ Of The Year at the National DMA‘s in 2000. Twice voted into DJ Magazine‘s prestigious list of the worlds Top 100 DJs, (which also described his club night Tweekin’ as “coming under the very short list of proper clubs around the world”). Unsurprisingly it was also awarded a DMA for Best Club Night.
A DJ; producer – releasing as Headland, Earthlink, Altitude and Sprocket; promoter – Sabotage, The Project, NY2K, Jus Right and Organic; and label co-founder of Think and Thunk records, which were responsible for early releases by Infusion and Pocket; and recently working with the Junkbeats Collective, Phil Smart remains a pioneer and inspiration for DJ’s locally and the world over.
