Soul has a new voice in Australia, and it’s got the funk

Renowned leading lady of ARIA nominated band The Bamboos (currently up for best live act @ The Age Music Vic Awards), Kylie’s voice has drawn comparisons to ‘Diana Ross as the musical love child of Chaka Khan and Rick James’. At the forefront of the funk, soul and disco scene in Australia, anyone familiar with her three hugely successful albums will understand why leading international tastemakers (including American radio station KCRW and BBC luminaries Craig Charles, Gilles Peterson and Mark Lamarr) are all firmly on board the Kylie Auldist soul train.

Independently Kylie won Best Album at The Age Music Victoria Awards in 2013 for Still Life, and her latest single Sensational was released in October 2015 ahead of her February 2016 album release – which promises to take us back to the future in a stretch-Monaro, fitted out with a mirror ball, a b-boy, a beat box and some sweet sweet disco tunes.
